Carlos Alcaraz and Holger Rune know each other better than most. Two leading leading lights of tennis' next generation, the pair used to play doubles together as 13-year-old juniors – they were pretty good at it, too – and now meet in a Wimbledon quarter-final. Alcaraz is already a grand slam winner, while Rune is yet to make it beyond the last eight of a major, but these two know each other's games inside out, making the Alcaraz vs Rune live stream one not to miss today.
Can the top seed keep his grass court legs against the Dane?
The 20-year-old's four-set defeat of grass-court specialist, and former Wimbledon finalist, Matteo Berrettini was proof of Alcaraz's step up to the elite on the green stuff. The first serve is a massive, while his forehand – which has been clocked at 104mph this tournament – is a weapon so fierce it could start revolutions. After he was forced to retire during an epic French Open semi-final against Novak Djokovic in June, Alcaraz is desperate to prove to the world just how far he's come.
Holger Rune's path to a first Wimbledon quarter-final has been marginally more circuitous. The Danish sixth seed was taken to five sets by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the third round, before coming through in four against former top 10 player Grigor Dimitrov.
The 20-year-old may not have much grass-court grade, but in reaching two Master Series finals in 2023 – beating Novak Djokovic in Rome to boot – Rune has proven he belongs among the elite. Part of the Netflix documentary Break Point, the baby-faced Dane is solid in all areas but will need to find a way of absorbing Alcaraz's prodigious power if he's to find a way to win.
Alcaraz and Rune have met just twice before. Their head-to-head record stands at one win each. The last time they met, indoors at the Paris Masters in 2022, Rune emerged on top after Alcaraz was forced to retire during a second-set tiebreak.

He dropped the first set against Matteo Berrettini last time out but responded really impressively to win in four sets, a result that took him beyond the fourth round at SW19 for the first time. With every day that goes past at Wimbledon, a final against Novak Djokovic appears increasingly inevitable.
Rune will have other ideas though, against a player in Alcaraz who he is very close friends with. Ten days ago, the 20-year-old did not have a single main-draw win at Wimbledon to his name, but the sixth seed has battled his way through to the last eight.
Ons Jabeur three games away from the semi-finals.
She leads Rybakina 3-1 in the third set, the defending champion needing a quick response if she’s to keep her hopes of going back-to-back alive.
To be able to play quarter-final against a player that is your same age, at the top of the ranking, feels amazing. I’m really looking forward to that match. I even looked at it when I was in the first round.
I couldn’t really afford to look at it because there were so many matches before this would eventually happen. Now we’re here so I’m really pumped and excited for it.
Holger Rune arrived for these Championships having never won a main-draw match at Wimbledon.
He’s won four in the past ten days now though, with Grigor Dimitrov beaten on Monday as Rune booked his place in the quarter-finals.
Carlos Alcaraz’s fourth-round match against Matteo Berrettini was still neatly poised.
The sets were level at one apiece although Alcaraz had the break to lead 5-3 and was at deuce on the Berrettini serve. In the midst of the subsequent rally the Spaniard whipped a forehand across court which the speed gun measured at 104mph to leave Berrettini in his tracks.
The Spaniard hasn’t looked entirely unbeatable, with his forehand at times misfiring in the last couple of rounds, but he’s been more than good enough to come through any tough periods.
The Wimbledon quarter-finals continue today with a rematch of last year’s final taking place in the women’s draw and Carlos Alcaraz competing in the pick of the men’s matches.
Elena Rybakina will go up against Ons Jabeur in the first contest of the day, as the defending champion looks to repeat her success against the Tunisian from 12 months ago. However, Jabeur was in scintillating form last time out, thrashing two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova.
In the other Centre Court match for the day, Alcaraz takes on fellow 20-year-old Holger Rune. World No 1 Alcaraz fought from behind in the last round to overcome Matteo Berrettini, and sixth seed Rune did the same against Grigor Dimitrov.
