Sports Injuries & Chiropractic

Most people make the conclusion that a person visiting a chiropractor is doing so for problems with their back or neck. However, other research is showing that people are reaching out to their D.C. for other treatments involving problems with their musculoskeletal system, and a great deal of these patients are athletes. Experts estimate that 90 percent of all world-class athletes use chiropractic care to prevent injuries and increase their performance potential.

It’s important to have a doctor who understands what you do and the stress you put on your body both in training and competition.  Being a multi-sport athlete first, and later a collegiate athlete, our doctor is better able to understand not only your mechanism of injury, but the many aspects that go into training.  And because our daily movements and athletic activities demand more than spinal movement alone, we address and treat areas outside of the spine including knees, shoulders, elbows, hips, feet and ankles too. Health is a core component of a long, successful athletic career, so having a chiropractor in your corner, who is going to put you first, can help you reach your goals.

Sports chiropractors treat both recreational and professional athletes who are pushing their bodies to the limit. They rely upon advanced techniques to improve muscle tone and balance, while allowing the athlete to continue their training, boost their performance, and increase the longevity of their athletic career. Being a sports chiropractor means Dr. Weber is a highly specialized provider who has pursued years of post-graduate training beyond his chiropractic degree. This additional education is specific to exercise, injury prevention, and rehab of existing injuries.

Auto Injuries & Chiropractic

We recommend you visit us as soon as possible after experiencing an auto accident. Many people do not feel pain or discomfort until 3 to 5 days following the accident when muscles are sore and begin to tighten around injured areas.  The greater the amount of time between the injury and the start of treatment, the slower the healing process and the greater chance of developing chronic pain. It is also important for insurance purposes not to have a large “gap” between the accident and a visit to the doctor. There is no referral necessary to visit a chiropractor following an auto accident, and you have the right to select your own physician rather than your insurer choosing for you.

At your first visit we’ll have you complete some paperwork about your accident and our front desk staff will get your insurance information sorted out and checked for you.  Most auto injury cases are handled with NO out of pocket expense to you and we’ll take care of all the billing. We will do a thorough evaluation, and often following auto accidents, need to take x-rays to make sure there are no underlying serious injuries such as ligament instability, whiplash, or minor fractures.  These are done conveniently in our office and billed to your insurance company.  If we feel we can help you, we’ll make a recommendation of care to help you feel better fast and get your condition to a fixed and stabilized position, so it won’t return and cause long-term issues.

Work Injuries & Chiropractic

If you have been injured in an accident while on the job, your chiropractic care may be covered. Common work injuries we see include: carpal tunnel syndrome, low back strain, shoulder and neck strains. No referral is necessary for you to seek treatment, and you have the right to select your own physician.

The sooner you document the circumstances of what occurred, the more likely that your claim for an injury will be honored. You should report the injury to your employer if the injury occurred while you were working. We will then work with your employer to handle payment of the claims and take care of all the billing. Workers who see chiropractors first following their injury, typically make a faster recovery and return to work sooner.

Arthritis & Chiropractic

We’ll be the first to admit that arthritis can’t be cured, even by chiropractic. What we can do is prevent the damage arthritis creates. If a joint is fixated and out of alignment, it’s not working the way it should. The stuck or uneven surfaces will begin to grind. This grinding causes inflammation, leading to arthritis and if left untreated, joint damage results. As chiropractors, we make sure your joints are never stuck or fixated and prevent additional deterioration of your current arthritic joints.

Back & Neck Pain & Chiropractic

Back pain chiropractic care is one of the safest, most effective methods for the treatment of back and neck pain. When the spine is misaligned, it can cause pain, numbness, difficultly moving, or impaired nerve function. By realigning vertebrae that have moved from their proper places—called a subluxation—a chiropractor works to reduce pressure on any pinched nerves, giving your spine the space that it needs to bend and flex with reduced pain.

In addition to relieving neck and back pain, chiropractic care can relieve muscle stress around the spine, increase range of motion, and improve muscle strength. People who receive chiropractic care usually have a decreased need for pain medication and can recover from their injuries more quickly.

Pediatric Care & Chiropractic

You are never too young or too old for chiropractic care, but it could be argued that chiropractic care is even more important at birth to ensure your child grows and develops into a healthy adult.  Babies just hours old are often adjusted to correct subluxations that occur during their entry to the world. Other reasons parents seek chiropractic care for their child include: help to improve or get rid of colic, torticollis, ear infections, ADD, ADHD, acid reflux, colds, sleep disturbances, asymmetrical head shape, allergies, difficulty nursing, scoliosis, sinus congestion, and bed wetting.

Chiropractic care for infants is very safe and gentle. When adjusting a newborn, a skilled chiropractor will only use the amount of pressure that you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. The child gets checked by hand, then is placed in position (usually in the parent’s lap), and gentle pressure is applied. That’s all there is to it. It’s simple, safe, and effective.

Pregnancy Care & Chiropractic

One of the most important times for a woman to be receiving chiropractic care is during pregnancy. There are no known contraindications to chiropractic throughout pregnancy, and our office uses adjusting tables specially designed to accommodate a pregnant woman’s body. This avoids any unneeded pressure on the abdomen and leads to a more comfortable experience. Known benefits of chiropractic care during pregnancy include: less back and hip pain, shorter labor times, relief of joint pain and inflammation, a decreased chance of a cesarean section, and control of nausea symptoms.

Sciatica Pain & Chiropractic

Sciatica is the result of a misaligned vertebra putting pressure on your sciatic nerve which branches from your low back, travels through your hips, and down each leg causing pain and numbness in one or both of your legs. Adjustments to the spine relieve pain and pressure being placed on the sciatic nerve by properly aligning the vertebrae, restoring proper motion to the spine and easing the pain the displaced vertebrae was causing.

Extremities & Chiropractic

Extremities refer to the joints of the body that are outside the spinal joints.  These joints include the ribs, shoulder and elbow, wrist and hand, hip, knee, ankle and foot, as well as the fingers and toes. Like your spine, extremities can have fixations, subluxations, and joint motion restrictions which need correcting. The goal of adjusting extremities is to restore the original and proper alignment of the joint which allows it to have normal and proper function.

Signs or possible symptoms of an extremity issue that can be helped by a chiropractor include: extremity pain, weakness, stiffness, immobility of the joint, numbness or tingling of an area. These problems may be chronic or acute and may benefit from an adjustment and supportive taping, or rehabilitative exercises to facilitate proper healing of the joint and surrounding tissue.

Health & Wellness & Chiropractic

We often hear of the importance of regular physical check-ups, eye doctor and dental visits, but the one master controller of our entire body – the brain, spinal cord & spine protecting it – often goes neglected until a major problem arises. Because day-to-day activities put biomechanical strain on our bodies, we recommend monitoring the health and condition of your spine through periodic evaluations.  Regular chiropractic adjustments help ensure you are living at your optimum level of health and function.

The benefits of maintenance care are that minor misalignments can be detected before they become symptomatic or well-established.  Patients on a maintenance chiropractic schedule experience improved posture, enhanced function, better athletic performance, reduced injuries and an overall enjoyable pain-free lifestyle.  This type of preventative or wellness care can also lead to a decrease in your overall healthcare costs by keeping minor problems from becoming more serious.
